MODELLING ON DRESSTAND: EVENINGWEAR AND BIAS CUT

Modelling is limitless in its creativity. The course, which is aimed at both beginners and those with previous pattern cutting experience, will include interpretation of design, modelling and making a paper pattern and toile. Students will be taught the British approach to progress from essential basic modelling techniques to development of an exciting exploration of drapes, flounces, different dress silhouettes and the up to the minute bias cutting used in evening and wedding dresses.
The course will include demonstrations and hands-on practice. Each student will have opportunity to develop their own dress pattern using the best in equipment at the college during this course.
What we will cover:
- Strict rules for preparation of the calico for modelling. Methodology to study the image and what to look for that will help the successful interpretation of the design. Decide images for interpretation of design, making a paper pattern and toile
- How to model on the stand
- Model the silhouette on the stand.
- Draft the paper pattern from the silhouette. Demonstration of how to take the pieces that have been modelled off the stand and on to carefully construct a paper pattern.
- Calico and Toile making.
Students will be required to bring in 3 sketches of their own or 3 photographic images from magazines or internet of dresses that they would like to interpret to the class.
Students are required to make up the toile and handed in for assessment. A mini show of toile will be organized by the end of the course.
